Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who might have observed the accused, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and rucksack.

Incident Location

The knife attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre, opposite primary access point of New Street railway station.

Police said they classified it as "unprovoked attack" and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand the motive behind.

Witness Accounts

An area worker, employed in the vicinity, described paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.

She described the scene as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances around 9 PM.

"Many my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk fundamentally, in the downtown area."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, said he came to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.

"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.

"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... considering something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
